About Amy
The person and practice behind NorthStar Integrative Medicine
Your Provider
Amy Patterson, MMSc, PA-C
Nationally board-certified Physician Assistant, licensed in Massachusetts. Twenty-five years of clinical practice, now focused entirely on hormone therapy for perimenopause and menopause, and medical weight management.
Amy founded NorthStar after seeing the same thing again and again: women navigating real hormonal changes being rushed through appointments, told their labs looked "fine," and left without a clear path forward.
She wanted to build something different. A practice where patients actually have time to talk, where labs are interpreted in context, and where the plan adjusts as you do.
Why This Practice Exists
For years Amy worked inside systems where appointments were short, follow-up was reactive, and patients, especially women dealing with hormonal shifts, were told their symptoms were "just part of aging."
She kept hearing the same things: I've been to three doctors and no one can explain what's happening. Or: My labs came back normal but I don't feel normal.
NorthStar was built to close that gap. Not with more services or faster prescriptions, but with time, context, and a willingness to look at the full picture before jumping to a plan.
Training That Shapes the Approach
Amy's clinical background spans more than 25 years across internal medicine, obesity medicine, and orthopedics. That range isn't just a résumé line. It's why she connects symptoms that other providers might look at in isolation.
Amy's approach treats symptoms as the primary guide, because how you feel matters more than any single number. Labs come in as a useful tool for context and storytelling, not as the decision-maker.
In Amy's words
How I practice
At NorthStar, care is personal, unhurried, and built around you. I bring a warm, compassionate approach to every visit, but one that is always grounded in evidence-based medicine. Your care is never one-size-fits-all. I take time to thoughtfully review your labs and history, and we build a plan together that reflects your individual needs, goals, and comfort level, from conventional hormone therapy to compounded options when clinically appropriate.
I believe menopause and hormone care work best as a genuine partnership. That means shared decision-making, where your voice matters in every choice we make, always balanced with safety and sound clinical judgment. Care doesn't end after one visit. It evolves. As your body and needs change, so does your plan, and I'm here for that continuity over time.
Menopause medicine is a fast-moving field, and I'm committed to staying at its forefront. My approach is shaped by ongoing training and the work of leading voices in the field, including Dr. Rachel Rubin, Dr. Kelly Casperson, Dr. Mary Claire Haver, Dr. Heather Hirsch, and Dr. Corrine Menn, so you can trust that your care reflects the most current, thoughtful thinking available today.
